With metal-ceramic crowns, the base is a metal alloy on which a ceramic coating is applied to hide the metal for aesthetic reasons. Due to aging and other physiological changes, there is a possibility that gray marks may appear on the contact between the crown and the body of the tooth.
This cannot happen with a metal-free crown because the inside of the crown is made of tooth-colored ceramic materials.
